So much for persistence
I have moved my main blogging activity to my WordPress blog Constant Comment. Please join me there. I really like the WordPress sidebar for posting. It is so much more functional than the tripod tools. I guess it's a case of a mediochre implementation of a good idea.

While I was looking up the spelling of the word ceili (pronounced KAY-lee) I found this site with lots of pointers to interesting Celtic cultural info on the web.

I found this amuzing little anti-Bush flash animation. It's hillarious. Enjoy.

Back from the land of shadows.
It's been a very, very, very busy week. I think things are about back to normal now. I got the lab packed and we moved into the new area Friday. At the end of the day, both the servers were up and all the furniture was in approximately the right place. Oh, and Harry was available via wireless. I'll spend a good part of next week unpacking. Now back to my regularly scheduled life!

Opensynth Neko64
Slashdot pointed me to this cool little gadget. I can only guess what they're selling it for. More than I can afford right now, that's for sure. The only way it could be better would be if it were running Mac OS X. But then I'm biased that way.

I got my WordPress blog set up this weekend. It is a PHP/MySQL blogging system. Unlike Moveable Type, which pulls the items out of the database and creates static pages when you publish a page, WordPress dynamically builds each page when it is requested. This keeps things tidy on the server.

It will probably be a couple of days before I get everything configured the way I like it with my customized style sheet and all. Until then, I'll continue to post here. I may continue to post here even after then. We'll just have to see.

Cory Doctorow pointed out something I'd love to have about now, a Wood Fired Hot Tub. It seems so back-to-nature survivalist to me. Which is a good thing.

Return of the King
I finally made it to Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Wow! Everyone was right. It was the best of the three films. I can't wait for the extended edition.

I have been thinking about changing the format of this blog. Instead of a daily rant, maybe I should get with the program and post several smaller items throughout the day. I'll give it a try starting tomorrow.

I'll still try to post at least on fun link of the day. Here's today's fun link.

More on Internet Homesteading
The domain name propogated! It works as advertised. Props to GoDaddy.com and phpwebhosting.com for a painless initiation to web hosting. I probably won't get around to looking at Zen Cart until the weekend.

I was suprised to find that two other folks at work were setting up stores on the web. I guess it is a business model whose time has come. One of my coworkers had already set up a store for his wife. The other was just starting to research the process to set up a store for her mother. In all three cases the store was being set up by a computer professional for use by a computer novice. I wonder how common this scenario is?

I wonder if anyone reads this blog. If you are reading this blog, would you mind posting a quick comment. It would mean a lot to me to get an idea whether or not I'm talking to myself. Maybe this is a good time to set up Movable Type on my web hosting site or something. At least I can get random traffic from registering with weblogs.com. I'll give that a try.

Fun link for today is Skippy the Goth kangaroo. Enjoy.

Homesteading the Internet
So today I bought a domain name and a web hosting site. Does that mean I'll stop posting here? I don't think so. We'll have to see. I may start yet another blog just for fun. I think I'm becoming a little obsessive, don't you? Oh well, back to the story about the domain name and web site.

My darling wife has decided to open a web store. Lucky for her, she's married to a web technology geek. I've been wanting to buy a domain name and set up a little homestead on the web for some time now. Tonight, I fulfilled that ambition. I shopped around and finally decided to buy a domain from GoDaddy.com. I'm here to report that so far it has been a painless operation. I say so far because it hasn't been long enough for my domain name to propagate through the DNS system yet. I'll let you know how it works out tomorrow.

I bought my web hosting from phpwebhosting.com. I can't say I shopped for this one. My good friend Bob "Revbob" Crispen recommended them to me. Again, so far, so good. I'll let you know for sure tomorrow. So far, I'm impressed.

Now, I've got to get off my ass and get busy implementing her store. I took a quick look around and so far, the best free ecommerce software that I've found is Zen Cart. I'll have to check it out further. I've got a lot to get back to you on but hang in there with me. It'll be an adventure.

The fun link today is Bob Dylan's Space Monkey. Enjoy.
